Tui Na Midtown NYC: Midtown AcuCare
What is Tui Na?
Tui Na is a hands-on treatment that uses Chinese Taoist and martial art principles to bring the body to balance. The literal meaning is “push and grasp” or “push press”, which refers to how this 2,000-year-old technique is performed. Many Westerners equate Tui Na with massage; however Tui Na is a much more therapeutic technique than a standard massage. Practitioners can brush, knead, roll or press areas between joints to open the body’s Qi and get the energy moving in both the meridians and the muscles.
How does Tui Na work?
Hand and arm techniques are used to massage the soft tissue of the body, stimulate acupressure points and mobilize various joints. Herbal liniments and other modalities requiring the use of implements, such as cupping may be incorporated to aid in the healing process.
Bodywork enhances acupuncture because it prepares the body and mind by opening the energetic pathways. When combined, both acupuncture and bodywork can reduce the healing time for most any condition.
What does Tui Na treat?
Tui Na can be used to treat chronic pain associated with the muscles, joints and the skeletal system. It is especially effective for sciatica, muscle spasms, joint pain such as arthritis, and pain in the back, neck and shoulders. It also helps chronic conditions such as insomnia, constipation, headaches, and chronic stress-related disorders of the digestive, respiratory and reproductive systems.
At MidTown AcuCare, Tui Na may be used alone or used in conjunction with acupuncture and other treatment methods.
